Zenith Model S-17379 Bakelite Tube Radio — 1940s AM “Long Distance” Receiver
A classic Zenith Model S-17379 tabletop tube radio, produced by Zenith Radio Corp., Chicago, Illinois, in the late 1940s. This compact AM receiver features a deep brown Bakelite cabinet with a gold-tone metal dial surround and a mesh grille. The design includes a large central tuning knob, dual side controls, and a molded Bakelite handle with chrome-plated mounts—hallmarks of Zenith’s postwar styling. The rear panel retains its factory stampings: “FOR BEST RESULTS USE ZENITH QUALITY TUBES” and “ZENITH LONG DISTANCE RADIO.”
Inside, the set houses its original tube complement and Zenith 49CZ643 transformer assembly, consistent with authentic postwar Zenith production. A fine display piece and a fully functional example of American radio craftsmanship from the golden age of home electronics.
Condition:
Good condition overall and fully functional, tested. Exhibits scratches, scuffing, oxidation, and age-appropriate wear throughout. Fasteners for the back panel are absent, and the interior is dusty. Despite these cosmetic flaws, the unit remains operational and retains its vintage charm.
Dimensions:
8 x 12.5 x 7.5 inches (Height x Width x Depth)
