Crosley Model 11-120U “Dashboard” Bakelite AM Clock Radio — 1951

An iconic Crosley Model 11-120U “Dashboard” AM clock radio, manufactured by Crosley Radio Corp., Cincinnati, Ohio, circa 1951. This highly collectible postwar model exemplifies Crosley’s celebrated “dashboard” design, inspired by the automotive styling of the early 1950s. The cabinet is molded in rich dark brown Bakelite, accented with gold-tone twin circular bezels—one enclosing the tuning dial, the other a built-in clock and alarm—set over a perforated metal grille. The Crosley crest emblem and gold lettered logo complete the mid-century aesthetic.

The interior retains its original Crosley chassis (Type 311) with a complement of RCA and Crosley-branded vacuum tubes, all consistent with the correct lineup for this model (12BE6, 12BA6, 12SQ7GT, 50C5, and 35W4). A Union-Made label remains affixed to the chassis, along with the original safety notice reading “Disconnect A.C. Plug from Receptacle Before Moving Cover.” This radio has been tested and is fully functional, delivering clear AM reception and working clock and alarm functions.

A superb example of Crosley’s engineering and design innovation, the Model 11-120U represents the fusion of form and function that defined American consumer electronics in the early 1950s. Condition:

Good condition overall, showing scratches, scuffing, and age-appropriate wear. Fully functional and tested. Two control knobs are absent, and the interior is dusty. Cabinet retains strong gloss and color with only minor oxidation to gold accents. Displays attractively with light restoration potential.
