Artist Biography

Robert Highsmith (American, 20th/21st c.) is a New Mexico–based watercolorist best known for luminous Southwestern landscapes. Working primarily in transparent watercolor, he captures the high-desert light, rocky escarpments, and native flora of the Chihuahuan Desert—frequent subjects include the Organ Mountains and Soledad Canyon near his home in Las Cruces. Highsmith is a Signature Member of the American Watercolor Society (AWS) and the New Mexico Watercolor Society (NMWS). His works appear in juried shows and private collections throughout the Southwest; he also teaches workshops and serves as a juror, emphasizing natural light, decisive brushwork, and atmospheric depth.
