Victorian Dome-Top Steamer Trunk, Steel-Clad & Oak Slats, c.1885–95
Late-19th-century American dome-top (camelback) steamer trunk with painted steel cladding, vertical oak slats, and ornate pressed-metal strapwork. The face carries a large center hasp/lock; hardware style is consistent with Eagle Lock Co., patented Aug. 28, 1877 era parts. Inside, the trunk retains its original honeycomb paper lining with border tape and a portrait lithograph—classic Victorian trunk decoration. A genuine period travel piece that displays beautifully and can serve as a blanket chest, coffee-table storage, or shop prop. The small “Glycerin” scrap inside is a reused trade label (not a maker’s tag).
A characterful example of 1880s–90s luggage with appealing surface and authentic details. Don’t miss this classic.
Condition
Good overall with age/use wear: scratches, dents, scuffing, finish wear/loss, stains/discoloration, tears and losses to interior lining, shrinkage cracks to interior boards, leather side handles absent, and no key. Structurally sound for display and light storage. Please review photos.
Dimensions
22 x 30 x 17.5 inches (Height x Width x Depth).
