1964 Bermuda One Crown – Silver
This is a 1964 Bermuda One Crown silver coin, issued under the authority of Queen Elizabeth II for circulation within Bermuda’s pre-decimal currency system. The coin was struck at the Royal Mint in London and bears no mint mark, as confirmed by inspection of both obverse and reverse.
The obverse features a right-facing crowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing a pearl necklace. The surrounding legend reads “ELIZABETH II · DEI GRATIA · REGINA,” enclosed by a toothed border at the rim.
The reverse displays the Bermuda coat of arms, with a lion sejant affronté above a shield depicting a shipwreck at sea, traditionally associated with the wreck of the Sea Venture. The denomination legend “ONE BERMUDA CROWN” encircles the design, with the date divided as “19” to the left and “64” to the right. The motto “QUO FATA FERUNT” appears below the shield. A toothed border is present at the rim. No mint mark is visible.
Issued as a standard circulating crown, this piece represents the final silver crown denomination of Bermuda prior to the territory’s transition toward decimal coinage later in the decade.
