1979 Republic of Maldives 100 Rufiyaa – Silver Commemorative
Issued in 1979 by the Republic of Maldives, this silver 100 Rufiyaa commemorative coin was produced for collector distribution and not for general circulation. No mint mark is visible on the coin as illustrated.
The obverse depicts a seated female figure facing left, shown working with a bundled sheaf of grain resting across her lap. Stylized grain motifs appear in the surrounding field. The denomination “100/-” is placed along the lower portion of the design.
The reverse features the national emblem of the Republic of Maldives, consisting of a palm tree rising above a crescent and star, flanked by two national flags. Beneath the emblem is a ribbon bearing Arabic script. The legend “REPUBLIC OF MALDIVES” arcs along the upper rim. The date is shown below in both the Islamic calendar year “١٣٩٩” and the Gregorian year “1979.” No mint mark is present.
This issue forms part of a group of late-20th-century Maldivian silver commemoratives struck primarily for the international numismatic market.
