1960 Israel 1 Lira – Silver
1960 State of Israel 1 Lira, struck in silver for general circulation.
The obverse depicts a stylized agricultural landscape associated with Kibbutz Degania, showing low buildings, trees, and tall vegetation at right, with the Hebrew inscription “דגניה” (Degania) prominently above. Around the upper periphery is a Hebrew legend referring to Degania, consistent with the series of Israeli coins illustrating national and settlement themes.
The reverse displays the denomination “1” at right, with the inscriptions “ישראל” (Israel) in Hebrew and Arabic, and the date “תש״כ 1960” at left. The design is enclosed by a plain border.
This issue belongs to Israel’s first regular coinage series following independence, with designs emphasizing agriculture, settlement, and national identity. The silver 1 Lira denomination was struck for a limited period before debasement and later redesigns.
