1927 Sarawak 50 Cents – Silver, Brooke Raj Issue, H Mint Mark
This is a 1927 Sarawak 50 Cents silver coin issued under the authority of Charles Vyner Brooke, Rajah of Sarawak, for intended circulation. The obverse depicts a right-facing bust of Charles Vyner Brooke, with the surrounding legend “C·V·BROOKE·RAJAH” and the inscription “SARAWAK” below. The portrait is shown without headwear, with simplified hair detail and a plain truncation.
The reverse features a large central numeral “50” enclosed within a rope wreath tied in a knot at the lower portion. The date “1927” appears at the top, with the legend “FIFTY CENTS” around the perimeter. A clear “H” mint mark is present below the rope knot at the base of the wreath, identifying the Heaton Mint as the place of manufacture.
This issue belongs to the later silver coinage of Sarawak, struck following reductions in silver fineness adopted during the 1920s for subsidiary denominations.
