1980 República de Venezuela 75 Bolívares – Proof Silver Commemorative
This is a 1980 Proof issue of the República de Venezuela 75 Bolívares, struck in silver as a commemorative coin.
The obverse displays a left-facing bust of Antonio José de Sucre in military uniform. The legend “ANTONIO JOSE DE SUCRE” encircles the upper periphery, with the dates “1830” at left and “1980” at right. The engraver’s name “MICHELENA” appears below the portrait near the lower rim.
The reverse depicts a detailed historical scene with a mounted figure in motion, accompanied by additional figures and landscape elements, derived from the artistic work associated with Michelena. The legend “REPUBLICA DE VENEZUELA” surrounds the upper periphery. The denomination “75 BOLIVARES” appears along the lower right, with the date “1980” at the lower left. The engraver’s name “MICHELENA” is positioned below the central design. No mint mark is present.
This Proof issue was produced to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of Antonio José de Sucre and was struck with specially prepared dies and planchets for collector presentation.
