1883 British Gold Sovereign Pendant – Victoria, St. George
This pendant features an authentic 1883 British gold sovereign, attractively mounted for wear. The obverse displays the left-facing “Young Head” portrait of Queen Victoria with the Latin legend VICTORIA D:G: BRITANNIAR: REG: F:D:. The reverse presents Benedetto Pistrucci’s classic St. George and the Dragon design, dated 1883, with the “B.P.” initials visible in the exergue.
The coin is housed in an ornate openwork yellow-gold mount with scrolling details and an integrated bail. The bale and attachment are confirmed 14K gold, while the coin itself is a standard sovereign struck in 22K gold (.9167 fine). This type of conversion was common in the late 19th to early 20th century, allowing gold sovereigns to be worn as jewelry while retaining their historic and visual appeal.
