1954-D United States Half Dollar – Silver, Franklin Type
The coin is a 1954 United States Half Dollar struck in .900 fine silver at the Denver Mint, as indicated by the visible “D” mint mark on the reverse. It was produced for general circulation as part of the Franklin Half Dollar series, which was issued from 1948 through 1963.
The obverse features a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin. The legend “LIBERTY” appears along the upper rim, with the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” positioned along the lower left perimeter. The date “1954” is placed to the right of Franklin’s bust near the shoulder truncation. Designer initials are faintly visible at the base of the truncation, consistent with the standard design of the series.
The reverse displays the Liberty Bell centered in the field. The legend “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” arcs around the upper rim, while “HALF DOLLAR” appears along the lower perimeter. The motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is positioned to the left of the bell, and a small eagle is shown to the right, included to meet statutory requirements for U.S. coinage. A clear “D” mint mark is present to the right of the Liberty Bell, identifying the Denver Mint.
