Identification
This is an 1898 United States One Dollar struck in silver for circulation at the New Orleans Mint, as indicated by the presence of an “O” mint mark on the reverse.
Obverse
The obverse features a left-facing portrait of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap inscribed “LIBERTY,” ornamented with wheat ears and cotton bolls. The legend “E · PLURIBUS · UNUM” appears along the upper periphery. Thirteen six-pointed stars encircle the portrait, with the date “1898” centered below. All major design elements and legends are fully visible in the photographs.
Reverse
The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with wings outstretched, clutching an olive branch in the right talon and a bundle of arrows in the left. A wreath surrounds the lower portion of the design, tied with a bow at the base. The inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR” encircle the central devices, with the motto “In God we trust” positioned above the eagle.
