Description

(5) 1972 United States One Dollar – Copper-Nickel Clad, Eisenhower Type

This group consists of five 1972 United States one-dollar coins struck in copper-nickel clad composition for general circulation. Based on the photographic evidence, no mint mark is visible on any example; for Eisenhower dollars, the absence of a mint mark denotes production at the Philadelphia Mint.

The obverse of each coin displays a left-facing portrait of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The legend LIBERTY appears along the upper rim, with the date 1972 below the portrait. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST is placed to the left of the bust. The area beneath the truncation, where a mint mark would appear on Denver or San Francisco issues, shows no letter on any coin.

The reverse features the Apollo 11–inspired design of an eagle descending toward the lunar surface while clutching an olive branch, with the Earth visible above. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA surrounds the upper perimeter, with E PLURIBUS UNUM above the eagle. The denomination ONE DOLLAR is inscribed along the lower rim. No mint mark is present on the reverse of any example.
