(4) 1971 & 1974-D United States Eisenhower Dollars – Copper-Nickel Clad
This lot consists of four United States Eisenhower One Dollar coins, comprising three examples dated 1974-D and one example dated 1971-D, all struck in copper-nickel clad for general circulation at the Denver Mint. Each coin displays the left-facing portrait of President Dwight D. Eisenhower on the obverse, with LIBERTY around the upper periphery, the respective date at the lower edge, and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST to the left of the portrait; a clear “D” mint mark is visible beneath the truncation of the bust on all four coins. The reverse features a heraldic eagle with wings spread, clutching an olive branch while standing on a stylized lunar surface, with a small Earth depicted above, surrounded by the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and ONE DOLLAR. The Eisenhower dollar series was introduced in 1971 and struck for circulation through 1978, honoring the former president on the obverse and commemorating the Apollo 11 lunar landing on the reverse; Denver Mint issues of these dates were produced exclusively in copper-nickel clad for circulation.
