Vintage 14K Gold Sculptural Ring w/ Antique-Cut Purple Corundum

This vintage handmade 14K yellow gold ring features a striking antique-cut oval purple synthetic corundum set in an open, sculptural wirework design. The elevated crown is formed by looping, non-concentric circular motifs that surround and frame the stone, giving the ring a distinctive architectural presence and excellent light exposure.

The center stone displays noticeable pleochroism, appearing lighter amethyst-purple under incandescent lighting and deeper, cooler tones in daylight. When viewed under a black light, the stone exhibits a distinct green-appearing fluorescence, consistent with synthetic corundum and in agreement with the original gemological appraisal. The overall design and craftsmanship strongly reflect mid- to late-20th-century studio goldsmith work.

Accompanied by an original written appraisal dated January 31, 1987, prepared by Thurm & Delanoy Goldsmiths, Ltd., Las Cruces, New Mexico, and signed by Gary Thurm. The appraisal documents the ring’s handmade construction, metal content, stone identification as synthetic corundum, and gemological characteristics including pleochroism, UV reaction, and internal features indicative of synthetic origin.
