Monumental Jerry Roan Navajo Belt Buckle with Natural Turquoise & Coral, 155g
This exceptional Navajo belt buckle is the work of Jerry Roan (1919–1977), a highly respected mid-20th-century Diné silversmith known for his bold, balanced compositions and traditional craftsmanship. Measuring an impressive 6 inches in width and weighing over 155 grams, this buckle reflects the scale, presence, and handwork that define Roan’s finest pieces.
Crafted in sterling silver, the surface features deep repoussé feather forms, precise stampwork, and oxidized background fields — all hallmarks of Roan’s mature style. Set within this complex silver landscape are 14 natural stones: 8 turquoise cabochons in vivid blue and green hues, and 6 red branch coral stones, each hand-fitted in fine serrated bezels. The turquoise displays matrix patterns consistent with Royston mine origin; coral provides a rich chromatic counterbalance, creating dynamic visual movement across the face of the piece.
Signed on the reverse with Roan’s conjoined “JR” hallmark, the buckle is compatible with belts up to 2 inches wide. A rare and powerful work that exemplifies the elegance and strength of traditional Navajo silver.
Condition
Excellent condition with original patina. All stones are securely set and free of cracks or repairs. We'll leave the polishing to you.
