1962 Heritage by Drexel — Mid-Century Walnut Two-Piece Gentleman’s Chest, Sculptural Brutalist Detailing
A refined example from Heritage by Drexel’s early-1960s sculptural walnut series, this two-piece gentleman’s chest combines architectural mid-century lines with the carved geometric detailing characteristic of the collection. Maker marked and crafted in solids and walnut veneers, the unit separates into an upper wardrobe cabinet and a lower two-drawer chest, allowing the pieces to be used together or independently.
The upper cabinet features paneled doors opening to a well-planned interior: the left compartment includes two adjustable, removable shelves, while the right compartment offers additional shelving with removable dividers and two dovetailed accessory drawers. The lower case provides two wide dovetail drawers framed in clean, modern walnut forms, all retaining their original cast-brass handles. The sculptural motifs and warm tonality align this piece with the Brutalist-leaning modernism Heritage explored in 1962–63.
A versatile and attractive storage solution from a highly collected period of Drexel Heritage production.
Condition: Good vintage condition with minor sections chipped veneer and gentle signs of use. Sturdy overall, with hardware and shelving intact.
