Amado Peña “Coming Home” Print — Handmade Walnut Frame
“Coming Home” is a beautifully atmospheric print by renowned Southwestern artist Amado Peña, whose unmistakable style has become a visual language of the desert. In this serene composition, two figures—draped in flowing garments patterned with Peña’s signature geometric textiles—carry earthenware vessels with quiet dignity. A distant pueblo rises at the horizon, its soft adobe colors blending gently into the open expanse. Peña’s mastery lies not only in detail, but in the vast calm he leaves unpainted. The artwork is housed in a handmade walnut frame crafted by Richard Parnaby of Brothers Leather Crafts Gallery in Mesilla, New Mexico. The frame itself is a piece of Southwestern craftsmanship, with warm natural tones, triple matting, and professional glasswork that elevate the print into a refined display piece.
Artist Bio
Amado Maurilio Peña Jr. (b. 1943) is one of the most recognized artists of the American Southwest, celebrated for his bold lines, layered symbolism, and depictions of Native and Hispanic communities. Born in Laredo, Texas, and of Mexican and Yaqui ancestry, Peña brings his heritage to every composition he creates. He studied at Texas A&I University—earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees—before shaping young artists as a teacher in Texas schools.
Peña is an officially recognized artisan of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe of Arizona, and his works have traveled far beyond the desert: they appear in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the U.S. State Department’s Art in Embassies Program, and countless public and private collections. His participation in the landmark exhibition Chicano Art: Resistance and Affirmation helped solidify his place in the modern art movement.
Condition
In good condition overall. The print shows noticeable fading, most evident in the central figures and sky, though the composition remains appealing and recognizable. The handmade walnut frame displays light, expected wear but remains solid and attractive. Matting is clean with no major discoloration or damage.
