Handlan St. Louis Railroad Lantern w/ Red Globe
This vintage Handlan St. Louis railroad lantern features its original embossed red globe and classic wide-base steel font, a configuration consistent with Handlan’s mid-20th-century hand-signal lanterns. Handlan was a major American maker of railroad lighting equipment from the late 19th century through the mid-1900s, supplying signal lamps and lanterns to railroads across the country. The red globe—traditionally used to convey stop or danger signals—remains an iconic element of railroad safety history.
The lantern’s wire guard, ventilated chimney, and hinged top cap all appear original, and the globe fits securely within the frame. Bearing clear signs of long service life, it offers authentic industrial character for collectors, decorators, and restoration enthusiasts. With its complete globe, cage, and font, this is a solid example of a classic Handlan signal lantern.
CONDITION
