Description

Large Antique Copper Boiler w/ Steel Lid & Wood Handles

This large antique copper boiler features a hand-formed oval copper body with a steel lid and original wooden handles, reflecting late-19th to early-20th-century craftsmanship. The warm copper surface, riveted seams, and areas of verdigris provide strong visual charm, while the aged steel lid adds authentic utilitarian character. Substantial in both size and weight, it makes an impressive statement piece for rustic, farmhouse, or industrial interiors.

Historically, boilers of this type were used for boiling laundry, canning and preserving foods, rendering fats, making soap, and heating water on wood or coal stoves. Their durability and heat efficiency made them essential household tools before modern appliances. Today, collectors value them for their patina, authenticity, and decorative presence.

Modern Uses:
This piece offers excellent versatility in contemporary spaces. It can serve as a decorative hearth accent, lined planter, rustic storage bin for blankets or firewood, or even as a unique beverage and party cooler. Designers and set decorators use boilers like this for photo shoots, historic displays, and theatrical productions due to their immediate period appeal. Whether in an entryway, kitchen, mudroom, or garden, it functions as both décor and conversation piece.

Condition:
In good condition with age-appropriate wear. The steel lid shows heavy rusting and oxidation, and the wood handles display visible wear from use. Dents are present on the copper body along with verdigris around seams and edges. Interior patina and oxidation are consistent with age. Please review photos for full details.
