Roseville Pottery – Trial Glaze “Ming Tree” Vase
A rare Roseville Pottery trial glaze “Ming Tree” vase, shape 582-8", featuring a flowing turquoise blue glaze with tan-blushed highlights and richly sculptural branch-form handles. The raised foliage is coated in crushed coraline-like white slip, characteristic of this scarce experimental series. The form is organic and asymmetrical, with a hand-formed rim and pronounced overall crazing typical of Roseville’s late 1940s glaze tests. The base is marked “Roseville U.S.A. 582-8"”, consistent with known examples of the Ming Tree trial glaze line.
Examples of this form and glaze have appeared in specialty Roseville auctions, where their rarity and experimental nature make them highly desirable to collectors. Campbell’s soup can shown for scale.
CONDITION
Good condition with overall crazing consistent with age. Minor glaze anomalies and small surface marks are present. No cracks or repairs observed, and the branch handles remain stable and intact.
DIMENSIONS
With handles: 8" x 6" x 4"
