Description

Cindy Duff Mosaic Wall Icon of Jesus Christ — Tile & Wood Mixed Media

This striking wall-mounted mosaic icon is signed Cindy Duff, a New Mexico folk artist recognized for her mixed-media creations, including her mosaic wall sculptures and decorative folk-art pieces dating from the early 1980s onward. In this work, Duff presents a devotional image of Jesus Christ rendered in high-relief and surrounded by a field of vibrant mosaic tile in deep red, gold, and iridescent accents. The arched composition incorporates two small devotional image tiles at the lower corners, echoing elements found in her known retablos and Southwestern-inspired religious pieces.

Mounted to a solid wood panel and designed for wall display, the piece has a bold presence and reflects the handcrafted, richly textured aesthetic associated with Duff’s work. Its substantial weight and detailed craftsmanship make it an eye-catching devotional artwork suitable for home, chapel, or folk-art collection.

CONDITION

Good condition with no damage noted. Light surface wear consistent with age and handmade mosaic construction. All tile work remains intact, and the panel is structurally sound. Please review photos for complete details.

Artist Bio — Cindy Duff

Cindy Duff is an American artist whose work reflects a strong sense of design and an appreciation for natural materials. Active since at least the late 20th century, Duff has created artworks that blend handcrafted structure with organic elements, often drawing inspiration from the landscapes and architectural traditions of the American Southwest. Her pieces show a careful attention to texture, composition, and environmental detail, using materials such as wood, stone, and botanicals to build dimensional scenes with a warm, rustic character.

Though known primarily for her mixed-media and handcrafted works, Duff’s style demonstrates an early connection to themes of regional heritage and natural form. Pieces from the early 1990s, such as this signed adobe hacienda diorama, illustrate her thoughtful approach to storytelling through miniature environments and tactile materials.
