Description

General Electric Model 309 “Adams” Hall Clock – Westminster Chime

This General Electric Model 309 “Adams” hall clock is a refined early electric longcase design produced during GE’s mid-20th-century collaboration with the Telechron clock division. The piece reflects GE’s effort to merge traditional American casework with their pioneering synchronous electric motor technology. Its sculpted bonnet, turned side columns, and warm walnut-toned finish surround an ornate brass dial with raised filigree, applied numerals, and a moon-phase arch—features typical of GE’s premium “Adams” series.

Inside, the clock houses GE’s electric Westminster chime system, striking on both the hour and quarter hour. These Model 309 units were produced in limited numbers, with wooden cases built by contracted American furniture makers and movements by GE/Telechron, making surviving examples increasingly desirable. A distinctive hybrid of electric innovation and classic grandfather-clock styling.

CONDITION

In good overall condition with typical cosmetic wear from age. Light scratches and noticeable scuffs are present on the feet from movement and use. Brass and dial surfaces show mild age toning but remain attractive. Clock chimes properly on the quarter hour and hour. The pendulum is present but requires adjustment, as it currently does not maintain a swing. Please review photos for full details.
