Navajo Contemporary Storm Pattern Wool Rug
This contemporary Navajo handwoven wool rug features a bold Storm Pattern design expressed in striking red, black, and cream. The classic Storm Pattern layout—a central geometric block, four directional corner motifs, and connecting stepped elements—has been interpreted here with modern symmetry and richly detailed panel work. Woven at approximately 23 wefts per inch and 9 warps per inch, the rug shows crisp definition and balanced craftsmanship throughout. A traditional Spirit Line appears along the border, an intentional detail used by Navajo weavers to provide a symbolic path for creative energy to exit the piece.
Vibrant in color and strong in graphic presence, this textile is well-suited for wall display or as an accent in Southwestern and Native American art collections. A fine example of late 20th-century Navajo weaving.
CONDITION
In good condition with no soiling or staining. Minor fiber separation appears at fold points as shown in the photos, but the structure remains stable. Colors are strong, and the edges and tassel ends show light, expected wear.
