Hand-Carved Folk Eastlake/Colonial Revival Dresser w/ Brass, c.1900–1920
This hand-carved wooden dresser reflects the same Folk Eastlake and Colonial Revival craftsmanship found in regional Appalachian and Mid-Atlantic workshop furniture from circa 1900–1920. The piece features a boldly carved flame-style backsplash, an interlaced guilloche band with brass accents, and corner blocks decorated with hand-cut botanical motifs. Three full-length drawers exhibit early dovetail and Knapp-joint construction, with molded fronts and original brass hardware fitted with porcelain-inset details. The warm reddish-brown finish highlights the mixed hardwoods commonly used in small-shop, early 20th-century American production.
Resting on period casters, the dresser combines sculptural appeal with functional storage. The folk-carved elements, incised linework, and regionally distinctive ornamentation make this chest an excellent companion to the matching bed or an attractive stand-alone statement piece for Americana and revival-style interiors.
CONDITION
In good overall condition with finish wear and loss. Age-appropriate scratches and touch-ups are present throughout, including minor chipping and evidence of past restoration. A small gap is visible at the top drawer, and the second drawer requires coaxing to close fully. Key absent. Casters and drawers are functional.
