Mexican Verde Bandera Rooster Sculpture – Hand-Sculpted Pottery, 12"
This hand-painted, hand-sculpted rooster is an impressive example of Mexican studio pottery finished in traditional verde bandera glaze—a vivid, glossy emerald tone characteristic of mid-to-late 20th-century artisans from regions such as Michoacán and Jalisco. The sculptural form features bold, leaf-like layered feathers, a carved arched tail, and thick glaze pooling that enhances the deep green tonal variation. Unsigned and unmarked, the piece aligns with one-off or small-workshop production typical of Mexican folk and studio ceramic traditions.
Its substantial size and weight give it strong decorative presence, and the Campbell’s soup can in the photos provides scale. A distinctive choice for collectors of Mexican pottery, folk art, or sculptural ceramics.
CONDITION
In good condition with noted wear: two crest points show touched-up chips, and there is a roughly 0.5" touched-up chip on the base, with additional small chips shown in the photos. Typical glaze variations and surface irregularities consistent with hand-built Mexican verde bandera pottery. Solid and displays attractively.
