Vintage Tlaquepaque Mexican Folk Art Hen-on-Nest Pottery Dish
This hand-sculpted and hand-painted hen-on-nest covered dish is an excellent example of mid-20th-century Tlaquepaque Mexican folk art pottery. Made from warm terracotta earthenware, the piece features a sculptural hen lid with expressive molded details and vibrant polychrome slip decoration in blue, green, orange, cream, and black—hallmarks of traditional Tlaquepaque craftsmanship. The basket-form base is richly textured and finished in a glossy glaze typical of the region’s mid-century utilitarian and decorative wares.
Entirely handmade using regional forming and painting techniques, this colorful, substantial piece embodies the lively aesthetic associated with Tlaquepaque workshops. A wonderful addition for collectors of Mexican folk pottery, animal-form ceramics, or vintage handcrafted décor.
Condition
In good overall condition with minor imperfections and finish wear throughout, including small chips and inherent glaze irregularities consistent with handmade Tlaquepaque pottery. Please review photos for full details.
