Description

Civil War Era Cherry Sheraton–Empire Chest

Dating to the Civil War era, this four-drawer chest blends the elegant turned columns of the Sheraton tradition with the broader, simplified lines of the Empire style, a hallmark of American furniture from the 1840–1870 period. Crafted in solid cherry with pine secondary woods, it features hand-cut dovetail joinery, a large upper drawer, and warm, period-appropriate coloration. The form reflects the practical skill of 19th-century rural cabinetmakers, offering both charm and reliable function.

Later acrylic knobs echo the look of pressed glass originals. A scorch mark on the back panel suggests a long working life but remains hidden in normal placement. Sturdy, functional drawers and authentic early American character make this an inviting piece for collectors and traditional interiors alike.

CONDITION

In good condition with age-related surface wear including scratches and finish marks on the top. Structurally sturdy with smooth-operating drawers and intact dovetail joints. Knobs are later acrylic replacements. Key is absent. A scorch mark is present on the back panel but is only visible from behind and does not affect use.
