Roberta Ángeles Oaxaca Alebrije Pair – Hand-Carved & Painted, 10"
This pair of hand-carved wooden alebrijes represents the lively artistry of Oaxacan folk tradition. The smaller figure, signed “Roberta Ángeles” on the underside, displays intricate brushwork in vivid hues of turquoise, purple, and pink. The larger unsigned companion complements it with bold red, blue, and green patterns, both rendered in imaginative hybrid forms characteristic of the Ángeles family’s celebrated style. Each is crafted from copal wood and meticulously hand-painted with expressive geometric and organic designs, showcasing the playful spirit and craftsmanship for which Oaxacan artisans are renowned.
Condition:
In fair condition. The smaller signed figure is missing one piece. The larger unsigned figure has all components glued in; right ear is damaged and repaired, and the right black extension is broken but remains attached. Colors remain bright and striking overall.
