This colorful trio of hand-carved wooden alebrijes represents the vibrant artistry of Oaxacan folk carving. The expressive purple pig, signed “Rafael Mendoza, Oaxaca, Mex.”, features tall painted ears, lively eyes, and delicate dotted patterns. It is accompanied by two dynamic porcupine figures—one in cobalt blue and one in bright red—each signed “Josué Ortecha, Tilcajete, Oax., Mex.” Carved from copal wood and vividly hand-painted, these pieces exemplify Oaxaca’s celebrated alebrije tradition, where imagination meets meticulous craftsmanship.
Condition:
Good condition overall, with vibrant colors and no damage. The pig’s tail has been repaired; porcupine figures show no flaws.
