Antique Solid Wood Cobbler’s Shoeshine Stand / Step Stool
An authentic antique primitive cobbler’s or shoeshine stand, hand-built from solid hardwood with a rich, time-softened glossy finish. The sturdy A-frame construction features a flat top surface over a single drawer and two fixed lower shelves (approximately 5.5" and 4.5" in height), originally used to hold brushes, polish tins, and small tools. Standing just 15½" tall, the piece was crafted for workshop use—practical, durable, and perfectly proportioned for a seated cobbler or shoeshiner.
Unmarked and likely of American origin, this example of vernacular trade furniture showcases straightforward joinery, honest materials, and a warm patina earned through decades of use. Its solid build and balanced form allow it to function beautifully today as a rustic step stool, plant stand, or decorative accent in farmhouse, industrial, or vintage-inspired interiors. A fine and evocative survivor of early 20th-century craftsmanship and utilitarian design.
Condition:
Good antique condition with age-appropriate surface wear, scuffs, and finish variations consistent with long use. The drawer opens smoothly, and the frame remains solid and stable. Retains an appealing, well-aged patina throughout.
Dimensions:
Overall: 15½" H × 16" W × 11¼" D
