Neftalí Martínez V. Oaxaca Alebrije Armadillo – Hand-Carved, Geometric, 14"
This hand-carved wooden alebrije armadillo by Oaxacan artist Neftalí Martínez V. beautifully embodies the vibrant spirit of Mexico’s folk art tradition. Decorated in a kaleidoscope of geometric and tribal patterns, the figure showcases meticulous brushwork and bold use of color—from deep purples and reds to bright greens, blues, and yellows. Its expressive stance and finely detailed scales highlight both the artisan’s imagination and technical mastery. Expertly crafted from copal wood, the traditional material of Oaxacan alebrijes, this piece is signed on the underside: “T. Viguera, Libramiento Nte. 49, Oaxaca, Mexico, Neftalí Mtz V.”
