Armour Star “Ready-to-Serve” Duraglas Barrel Pickle Jar w/ Wire Handle & Red Lid
Large clear glass barrel-style storage jar made by Owens-Illinois under their Duraglas process, with embossed “Duraglas” mark near the base and classic “Diamond O-I” logo on the underside. This particular example is branded for the Armour Star product line: the red painted metal lid reads “This delicious product is thoroughly cooked. Ready-to-Serve. An Armour Star Quality Product.” The jar features a bale-wire handle with turned wooden grip, heavy clear glass with numbered base markings, and vertical panel ribbing typical of general-store or deli bulk containers from the 1940s–1950s.
Complete and display-ready, this jar would have originally held pickles or other preserved goods in a grocery or meat-packing environment and now makes a striking piece for vintage kitchen display, advertising glass or Americana décor.
Condition
Good vintage condition. No chips or cracks to the glass body. The red lid shows moderate paint wear, surface corrosion and some paint splatter consistent with use. The wire handle is intact, with oxidation and patina appropriate to age; the wooden grip shows wear but is secure. The embossed marks remain clear. Please see all photos.
