R.C. Ramey Pueblo-Style Storyteller, 1994 — Hand-Painted, 7 Children
Charming hand-sculpted and hand-painted clay storyteller figure by Arizona artist R.C. Ramey, signed and dated Ramey ’94 on the underside. Created in the Pueblo storytelling tradition, this figure depicts a seated woman with seven children climbing upon her arms and lap, symbolizing the sharing of stories across generations. The sculpture is rendered in warm terracotta with hand-applied pigments in black, white, rust-red, and turquoise blue, characteristic of Ramey’s distinctive Southwestern folk-art style.
Ramey, active in Sedona during the late 20th century, is known for his adaptations of Pueblo storytelling forms into broader cultural themes, including Judaic and Native-inspired works. His pieces are fully hand-modeled, giving each a unique charm and expressive character. A delightful example of his artistry and a collectible representation of Southwestern ceramic traditions.
