Orthoceras Fossil Stone Plate & Bowl Set – 29 Pc, Moroccan Black Limestone
mpressive 29-piece set of hand-carved Orthoceras fossil stone plates and bowls, each fashioned from polished black fossiliferous limestone quarried in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. These striking pieces showcase genuine Orthoceras cephalopod fossils—ancient marine creatures that swam Earth’s seas over 400 million years ago during the Devonian period.
The set includes twelve 10" plates (approx. 1 lb 12 oz each), ten 2" x 7" bowls (approx. 1 lb 9 oz each), five 4.75" x 6.25" oval dishes (approx. 8 oz each), and two deep 2.5" x 10.25" bowls (approx. 4 lbs each). Each piece reveals unique fossil patterns in contrasting tones of white, gray, and black—highlighting natural variations formed over millennia. These fossil stone vessels serve equally well as decorative displays, geological conversation pieces, or distinctive natural tableware.
Comparable examples of Moroccan Orthoceras fossil stoneware appear in museum shops and design galleries worldwide, valued for their organic beauty and scientific significance.
Condition
Good overall, with typical surface wear and natural inclusions consistent with hand-carved fossil limestone. One oval dish displays a 0.25" rim chip, shown in the photographs. Surfaces retain a bright, polished finish that enhances fossil detail and contrast.
