Striking one-of-a-kind woodcut and collage by contemporary American artist Ouida Touchon. This work features a large, stylized pumpkin rendered in expressive black linework, handprinted over a collage of an aged world map showing early 20th-century territorial designations, including “S.S.R.” regions of the former Soviet Union. The combination of vintage cartography and organic imagery creates a compelling dialogue between natural continuity and shifting human geography.
The piece is signed and numbered 1/1 in the lower left, confirming its uniqueness. Subtle pastel hues of rose, lavender, and blue enhance the surface, adding warmth and tonal depth to the composition. Presented in a shadow box–style black frame behind glass, the work demonstrates Touchon’s signature fusion of printmaking precision and conceptual layering—an ideal statement piece for modern art collectors.

Artist Study and Context
Ouida Touchon’s artistic language merges traditional printmaking with modern narrative and symbolic depth. She frequently integrates vintage maps, handmade papers, and layered inks, transforming each print into a meditation on time, geography, and nature. Her subjects often explore the tension between permanence and transience—how organic life endures amid human-made boundaries.
The present work exemplifies her style: bold botanical imagery anchored in historical cartography, with painterly color fields and collage textures uniting the two. Touchon’s process bridges fine print craftsmanship and contemporary concept, making her pieces distinct within modern printmaking circles.
Artist Biography
Ouida Touchon (American, b. mid-20th century) is a mixed-media printmaker and painter based in western Colorado. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Kansas City Art Institute and a Master of Arts in Studio Arts (Painting and Printmaking) from the University of Missouri–Kansas City. Her training also includes advanced printmaking and papermaking studies at Edinburgh Printmakers in Scotland and workshops in Italy and the United States.
Touchon describes her work as driven by “two creative limbs”—one rooted in narrative, often exploring the lives and myths of women, and the other devoted to the beauty of observation: line, form, pattern, and natural detail. She combines hand-pulled woodcuts, collage, chine-collé, and painting to produce works that are simultaneously graphic and lyrical. Many of her compositions are printed on reclaimed materials such as antique maps and aged papers, layering historical context into her imagery.
Her art has been exhibited widely throughout the United States and appears in both public and private collections. Touchon was recognized as a Spotlight Artist at Art Santa Fe in 2024, underscoring her growing prominence in contemporary printmaking.
Today, she continues to create both limited-edition prints and unique one-of-one pieces, maintaining a practice that honors the traditions of fine printmaking while embracing the conceptual richness of collage and mixed media.
