Description

Mid-Century Corning Ware Ivory Milk Glass Plates — Set of 5, Made in USA

A set of five vintage Corning Ware dinner plates crafted in durable ivory-toned milk glass, each measuring approximately 9 inches in diameter. These minimalist, gently rimmed plates bear the impressed underside mark “CORNING T.M. REG. MADE IN U.S.A.”, identifying them as early Corning Glass Works production from approximately 1958 to 1965. The simple, undecorated form reflects the brand’s mid-century design ethos—clean, functional, and made to last.

Corning Ware originated in 1958, following Dr. S. Donald Stookey’s accidental discovery of Pyroceram, a revolutionary glass-ceramic material capable of withstanding extreme temperature changes. Though most recognized for its oven-to-table casseroles, Corning also produced matching flatware and service pieces such as these plates, designed for institutional, household, and military contracts. Their ivory “milk glass” finish and classic proportions exemplify the understated durability that made Corning Ware a household name throughout the mid-20th century.

The embossed “T.M. REG.” (trademark registered) marking and lack of later “for Range & Microwave” text confirm production prior to 1969, before Corning shifted toward Corelle and newer branding. Collectors value this specific mark for its link to early American manufacture at Corning’s New York facility.
