Description

Mexican Tree of Life Candelabra — Adam & Eve, Hand-Painted Plaster

Colorful hand-painted Tree of Life candelabra from Mexico, depicting Adam and Eve beneath the Tree of Knowledge, with a coiled serpent winding around the trunk. Crafted from plaster in the traditional style of Metepec folk art, this vibrant piece features layered floral and fruit motifs, perched birds, and three candle holders designed to accommodate taper candles. The composition echoes the celebrated Árbol de la Vida (Tree of Life) tradition of central Mexico, where artisans have long portrayed Biblical themes through exuberant form and color.

While most classic examples are made of fired clay, this plaster construction represents a decorative variant of the Metepec style, retaining the same symbolic storytelling and intricate hand-painted detail. The lively palette—bright pinks, yellows, blues, and greens—highlights the piece’s folkloric charm and craftsmanship. A striking and cheerful example of Mexican devotional folk art, perfect as a sculptural centerpiece or collectible accent.
