Hamilton California Job Case – 89 Compartments, Cast-Iron Handle
Maker-marked Hamilton Manufacturing Co. full-size California Job Case printers drawer, retaining its cast-iron pull and original paper label strip. Classic layout with 89 compartments for movable type—largest approx. 6.25" x 2.25", smallest 1.5" x 1"—and solid-wood dividers with pinned joints. A faint circular Hamilton stamp is visible on the mid rail, consistent with Two Rivers, Wisconsin production.
An iconic piece of letterpress history (late 19th–mid 20th century), ideal for print-history collectors or repurposed as a wall-mounted display for miniatures, shells, or curios. Authentic, not a reproduction.
Condition
Good, vintage condition with age-appropriate surface wear, darkening, and scattered ink/handling marks; pencil writing on the back edge. Dividers present and stable; cast-iron handle secure. Normal shop wear that does not impair display or utility.
Dimensions (inches)
