Edwardian Cherrywood Sideboard with Cipollino Ondulato Marble Top
— Satinwood & Elm Inlay, c.1910–1930
A distinguished early 20th-century sideboard of Edwardian design, crafted in cherrywood and surmounted by a one-inch-thick slab of Cipollino Ondulato marble—renowned for its undulating green-grey and white veining. The case features clean, well-balanced proportions with two drawers above double cabinet doors, all supported on finely shaped cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. The doors open to reveal adjustable shelving and intricate satinwood and elm geometric inlay on the interior panels—an understated hallmark of refined Edwardian cabinetry.
The drawers are constructed with hand-cut dovetails and mahogany secondary wood, reflecting quality traditional joinery. Originally fitted with brass escutcheons and locks, the sideboard was later reworked—these fittings removed and modern square wooden pulls installed. The result is a superbly balanced cabinet that marries fine craftsmanship, classical form, and modern restraint—ideal for use as a buffet, console, or entryway statement piece.
Condition
Good restored condition. Locks and escutcheons were removed during reworking, and replacement wooden pulls were added. Light wear to the finish and faint interior shelf marks consistent with age and prior use. The marble top remains intact, with no significant chips or cracks. Structurally stable, with a warm, even polish and attractive color throughout.
