Description

Antique Alpacca Hoka Cigarette Case – Floral Engraving, Gilt Interior

Refined antique cigarette case marked “ALPACCA HOKA” beneath the latch, dating to the mid-20th century (circa 1930s–1950s). Crafted from Alpacca, a nickel-silver alloy composed of copper, nickel, and zinc, known for its silver-like appearance and durability. The front cover features an elegant Art Deco floral engraving in relief over a fine engine-turned (guilloché) background, bordered by a raised scroll design. The reverse is plain with matching texture.

The case opens via a push-button mechanism and reveals a gilt interior fitted with its original golden elastic band for securing contents. A hand-engraved inscription inside reads “Mother from Hildur U. Morton,” suggesting it was a personal gift. The marking “Alpacca Norway” indicates Scandinavian retail origin, though the Hoka brand is associated with German and Central European manufacturers active during the 1930s–40s, specializing in silver-plated and nickel-silver accessories such as compacts and cigarette cases.

Condition
Good overall condition with age-appropriate surface wear and light toning. Interior gilding remains largely intact with minor discoloration near the hinge. Elastic strap shows some aging but is complete. Personalized engraving inside as shown. Mechanism opens and closes securely.
