Johan Tapp Solid Mahogany Rotating Octagonal Leather-Top Table
Elegant solid mahogany octagonal table by Johan Tapp, mid-20th century, featuring a rotating tooled-leather inset top and a single dovetailed drawer with an antique brass pull. Supported by a 3" turned pedestal column over a tripod base with fluted legs, this refined design reflects both artistry and function. The underside is maker-marked “Johan Tapp.”
Inspired by 19th-century revolving drum and library tables, this piece was originally designed as a compact writing or reading table. The rotating top allowed the user to turn books or papers within reach, while the drawer held writing instruments or correspondence. Today, it serves beautifully as a lamp, accent, or side table, offering versatility and understated sophistication.
Johan Tapp, active in Chicago from the 1930s–1960s, was known for exceptional craftsmanship and refined neoclassical styling, producing heirloom-quality furniture for America’s finest homes.
Condition
Good vintage condition with scuffing, finish wear, and age-appropriate marks to the leather and wood surfaces. Structurally sound and sturdy; drawer operates smoothly. Please review photos for details.
