Description

“Sally Rand” Style Dancer Ornament on Marble Base, circa 1930s

An elegant Art Deco-era cast-metal figural ornament, likely dating from the 1930s, depicting a nude dancer posed in front of a stylized plumed fan, evocative of the famed “Fan Dancer” Sally Rand. The figure appears to be cast in aluminum or a light alloy, finished in a bright chrome-style plating, and is mounted on a rectangular grey marble base with a felted underside.
The piece measures approximately 4.75″ high × 3.5″ wide × 2.5″ deep and weighs about 1 lb. It retains strong decorative appeal and references the glamorous motion‐and‐metal mascots associated with early motoring and stage performance.
Such dancer figures were sometimes marketed in the 1930s as hood ornaments (“mascots”) for luxury or custom automobiles, or later repurposed as desk or display figures. While this piece is mounted on a marble base and may have served primarily as a display object, its form and finish strongly align with automotive ornament traditions. The association with Sally Rand is speculative but stylistically consistent: she rose to fame at the 1933–34 Chicago World’s Fair and her “fan dance” motif inspired numerous decorative figurines.

Condition:
In good condition overall for a vintage decorative object. The marble base shows several chips, edge wear and surface scratches; the figure exhibits minor surface wear and patina consistent with age. The felt bottom remains intact, securing the piece for display. No major structural damage is apparent.
Dimensions: 4.75″ high × 3.5″ wide × 2.5″ deep; approx. 1 lb.

Provenance & attribution notes:
While no maker’s mark or patent number is currently visible, the style aligns with 1930s hood ornament motifs, and the “Sally Rand” identification reflects a common marketplace naming convention (see listings of “Sally Rand hood ornament” circa mid-20th century).
