Boris O’Klein “Java” Dirty Dogs of Paris Etching, Signed
Witty and collectible hand-colored etching titled Java by Boris O’Klein (French, 1893–1985), from his famed Dirty Dogs of Paris series. Known for his humorous depictions of anthropomorphic canines, O’Klein portrays a jaunty bulldog and an elegant poodle strolling together through a Parisian street scene—rendered with the artist’s trademark blend of satire, charm, and fine draftsmanship. The scene exemplifies O’Klein’s enduring appeal as a master of canine character and social comedy.
Executed as an original etching with hand-applied watercolor on mould-made Johannot paper (75% cotton, 25% esparto). Signed by the artist in pencil lower right and titled lower left. Matted and framed behind glass in a neutral wood frame. O’Klein’s works remain highly sought after by collectors of vintage humor and animal art, particularly signed examples from the Dirty Dogs series.
Condition:
Good overall condition. The print surface remains clean and vibrant beneath glass, with fine color and no visible foxing or toning. Minor imperfections and light wear to the frame consistent with age; mat and glazing intact and secure.
