Renaissance Revival Deruta Italian Majolica — G. Giulio & D. Grazia
A refined pairing of hand-painted Italian maiolica ceramics from the famed town of Deruta, executed by two of its most respected workshops — Gialletti Giulio and Ceramiche D. Grazia. The square wall-mountable plate, signed “Gialletti Giulio Deruta Decorato a Mano,” features a richly detailed Renaissance-style motif of scrolling leaves and fleur patterns in cobalt blue, saffron, and terracotta tones. The companion pitcher, marked “D. Grazia in Deruta Made in Italy,” exhibits the same spirited palette, highlighted with hand-painted floral and foliate designs in traditional tin-glazed majolica.
Deruta, nestled in Italy’s Umbrian hills, has produced world-renowned ceramics since the 14th century, celebrated for its lustrous glazes and Renaissance ornamentation. Gialletti Giulio, founded mid-20th century, revitalized this historic style, while the Grazia family workshop continues a lineage dating back nearly five centuries. Together, they embody the enduring artistry and craftsmanship that define Deruta’s legacy.
Condition
In very good condition overall, with visible crazing to the plate’s center and a minor firing imperfection to the pitcher’s spout tip. No chips or cracks noted. Please review images for detail.
