Description

Pendleton “Chief Joseph” Robe Blanket – Beaver State Label, 64 x 80 in.

A fine example of Pendleton Woolen Mills’ most celebrated pattern, the “Chief Joseph” robe blanket, woven under the Beaver State label in Oregon. Crafted of pure virgin wool with cotton for softness and durability, the piece displays the classic stepped-diamond and arrow motifs in vivid hues of tan, red, green, and ivory. First introduced in the 1920s and still among Pendleton’s most recognized designs, the Chief Joseph pattern honors the great Nez Perce leader renowned for his integrity and courage.

The jacquard weave allows the blanket to be reversible, with the design shown in color inversion on the reverse side—a hallmark of Pendleton’s craftsmanship. Finished with traditional felt binding at the edges, this robe exemplifies the brand’s enduring quality and artistry. The “Beaver State – Robes and Shawls” label remains affixed at one corner, confirming authentic manufacture.

Condition

Good condition overall, with two small isolated areas of moth damage approximately 1/16" in diameter, both located near the center and not visually disruptive. Wool remains strong with bright coloration; binding intact with only light evidence of handling consistent with gentle vintage use.

Dimensions
