Laguna Pueblo Polychrome Clay Mask with Feathers, Verna Solomon
Signed Verna Solomon, this hand-formed clay mask reflects the rich Pueblo tradition of ceramic artistry blended with contemporary expression. The rounded mask features bold polychrome decoration with blue and rust-red stepped motifs symbolizing clouds and rain, framed by textured dark hair and accented with real feathers bound at the crown. The sculpted mouth and organic surface lend a distinctly human character to the design.
Verna Solomon (Laguna Pueblo) is noted for her innovative ceramic masks that honor Pueblo cultural imagery while introducing modern stylistic interpretation. Her work is referenced in Rick Dillingham’s Acoma & Laguna Pottery and represented in both private and institutional collections. This smaller example displays her characteristic harmony of natural materials and vibrant symbolism—a fine addition for collectors of Southwestern or Native American art.

Very good condition overall with only minor handling wear. Feathers show light fraying typical of natural materials. Surface coloration is strong with no visible cracks or repairs. Hanging wire is intact and secure.
