Pair of Signed Turned Wood Vases — Honey Locust & Oak, Late 20th Century
Beautifully executed pair of hand-turned wooden vases, each fashioned from a single solid block of fine hardwood. The larger vase is crafted from Honey Locust, prized for its golden tone and swirling, iridescent grain. Its rounded, bottle-form silhouette shows a smooth, satin finish that accentuates the natural chatoyance of the wood. The companion piece, turned from Oak, reveals a rich medium-brown hue with visible rays and pores typical of the species, forming a striking contrast between the two.
Both pieces are signed faintly on the underside—possibly “Madeline”—and annotated with the respective wood types. The craftsmanship suggests a skilled late 20th-century studio turner with a strong sensitivity to material and form. Together, they create a warm, organic pairing ideal for interior display or a fine wood art collection.
Dimensions:
Honey Locust Vase: 11.5 in. height × 4.5 in. diameter, approx. 1.3 lbs
Oak Vase: 7 in. height × 3.5 in. diameter, approx. 1.5 lbs
Soup can shown in photos for scale.
Condition:
Good overall condition with mild discoloration and light finish wear consistent with age. The Oak vase shows subtle surface variation, while the Honey Locust retains a soft luster and clear grain. Both remain stable and visually appealing, with faint but legible signatures.
