Badger Kachina Doll by L. Begay, 1990 – Hand Carved Wood, Leather & Feathers
Hand-carved and painted Badger Kachina doll signed and dated “L. Begay, 1990” on the underside, from Thoreau, New Mexico. Crafted from wood and richly detailed with natural fur, feathers, soft leather garments, and small nailhead accents. The figure is depicted mid-dance, holding a rattle and bow, with traditional red, blue, and yellow painted details and a feathered headdress. The Badger Kachina represents healing, determination, and connection to the earth—core themes in Hopi ceremonial tradition.
A visually dynamic and culturally significant piece of late 20th-century Native Southwestern artistry, suitable for collectors or display.
Condition:
In good vintage condition overall. The leather cape shows multiple perforations and light deterioration typical of aged hide, as shown. Paint colors remain vivid, feathers full, and all decorative elements are secure. Presents attractively.
Dimensions:
Approx. 10 in (height) × 5 in (width) × 3 in (depth).
Soup can shown for scale.
