Pair of Marzi & Remy Relief Vases — MR-Shield Marked, 13″ & 20″, West Germany
Stunning matched pair of Marzi & Remy decorative vases, each bearing the signature “MR” shield mark and model numbering on the base. These sculptural Mid-Century pieces feature raised relief panels of stylized floral and geometrical motifs in rich contrast—black relief over white or light ground—evoking the bold, textural appeal collectors admire in West German studio ceramics. The 13″ vase (≈ 32 cm) and the 20″ vase (≈ 50 cm) were likely produced during the period when Marzi & Remy used the shield mark (1964–1990).
Though Marzi & Remy is more commonly associated with salt-glazed stoneware and steins, this pair demonstrates a less frequent but fascinating side of their decorative output: slab forms, relief work, and high visual drama. As remarkable display pieces, they are ideal for collectors seeking something rare and architecturally engaging.
Condition:
Good vintage condition. Each vase has a single touched-up chip, visible only upon very close inspection. No structural cracks or repairs. Surface wear and glaze variations typical of hand-finished ceramics are evident.
Dimensions:
Vase A: 13″ height × 4.5″ diameter
Vase B: 20″ height × 9.5″ diameter
